Homemade snacks and treats (for kids)

    7 November, 20173 April, 2018

My daughter, Stella, is 4½ and she is already eagerly awaiting her 5th birthday (party) in April.  On Friday last week I went to pick her up from kindergarten and when I arrived she was sitting on the mat with her classmates listening to her teacher explain how it was Jonah’s 5th birthday and he

    The art of finding balance

    24 October, 201729 March, 2018

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you may recall my New Year’s resolution to schedule active relaxation into my life, and my plan to practice daily yoga for my physical and mental well being.  Well, it’s now Labour weekend, I haven’t done any yoga since sometime in February, and I have just returned

    My zero waste aspirations

    13 September, 201714 April, 2018

‘Zero waste’ is a new attitude towards environmentalism that is growing fast in popularity and momentum. I find it seriously inspiring, if not a little bit daunting – the idea that you can live a fulfilling, ethical life leaving only a minimal amount of waste in your wake, without having to forsake convenience, productivity, or

    My obsession with food

    5 September, 201729 March, 2018

Last week I learned a new word.  I had never come across it before and yet it popped up twice in two days, in two completely different pieces of writing.  My New Roots is a healthy food & lifestyle blog I recently discovered and have started to follow.  In her latest post the author, Sarah,

    Homemade iron tonic

    22 August, 201729 March, 2018

This blog post is a follow-up to one I published a few months’ ago called, “On being a woman, period.”  I wrote about how I decided to try addressing my iron deficiency issues and menorrhagia through diet and lifestyle in an attempt to balance my hormones, before resorting to synthetic iron supplements, prescription medicines, or

    Living without plastic

    4 July, 201714 April, 2018

My family and I have been consciously avoiding plastic for about two years now.  This is no mean feat, as plastic is about as ubiquitous as water these days, and I am well aware that in spite of our best efforts we are still surrounded by it in our home – our plastic fridge, our

    Living the dream

    27 June, 201714 April, 2018

You may or may not have noticed that things have gone a bit quiet over here in Mrs Goodness land lately. That’s because we have been busy with the process of selling our house. The past 8 weeks have been an exhausting whirlwind of cleaning and fixing, open homes, an unsuccessful auction, negotiations, and a

    Responsible consumerism

    15 March, 201714 April, 2018

It’s an unfortunate fact of life for all creatures great and small, that there are ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’.  And although there are some weeks when I don’t know where our next mortgage payment is coming from, I’m pretty sure that as far as 99% of the world’s population is concerned, I’m a ‘have’.  Why? Because

On doing what you can and feeling good about it

    2 March, 201714 April, 2018

A few weekends ago I took the first step towards realising my New Year’s resolution for 2017 by attending a beginners’ workshop in Ashtanga yoga. I had such an amazing time, and when I came home on Sunday afternoon I was fully resolved to practise my new moves every day.  I envisaged a year of physical

  • This is a long-time favourite quote of mine. Some people focus all their energies on what is happening to them. Others on who/what they are. The latter is the only thing we really have control of, I think. . . #inspirationquote #motivationalquote #itswhatyouremadeof #itsallaboutattitude
  • Wow, are radishes the easiest veg to grow from seed? 😮😆 Stella and I harvested the radishes we sowed from seed it feels like just a few weeks ago! They're already on my shelf in the earliest stages of fermenting. My kids find radishes too spicy to eat fresh but fermented they pop them like lollies! Instead of spicy they end up crunchy sour. Radishes are a quick ferment - I usually leave them for just 4 - 5 days. . . #radishes #fermentedradish #fermentingkit #homegrownveggies #homegrownfood #summerharvest #sownfromseed #realfood #goodfood #fermentedfood #homemadeferments
  • I've started taking red maca powder daily, to support my hormones in a natural, no-risk sort of way. I think it's actually doing some good! I think I feel calmer, less moody... Could it be the placebo effect? - Yes. Do I care? - No. An effect is an effect as far as I'm concerned, placebo or not! 😜 Maca is an adaptogen, which means it supposedly supports your own body to balance its hormones. It's also a cruciferous vegetable grown in Peru, so if nothing else I'm just adding a bit of ground-up broccoli-like vegetable into my (decaf) coffees, haha! Just having a nice relaxing cuppa before I head out and pick the kids up from school... 🧘‍♀️ . . #maca #redmaca #macawithmycoffee #balancinghormonesnaturally #naturalmoodsupport #foodsthatheal #placeboeffect
  • I'm excited to share that the Merkur 23C safety razor is now available from the Mrs Goodness shop! 😆 (link in bio) Also, the excellent and very affordable Astra razor blades. I've just written a blog post that's all about my own safety razor experiences. I love my #merkur and I'll never use anything else - #buylesschoosewellmakeitlast 💚 . . #buywellbuyonce #merkurrazor #desafetyrazor #nomoreplastic #plasticfreealternatives #plasticfreebathroom #plasticfreeshaving #ditchdisposables #gooddesign #designedtolast #formfollowsfunction #mrsgoodnessshop #blogpost #mrsgoodness
  • Thank you, little one, for helping out my cucumber plant! My Lebanese cucumber has done so well this summer, I'm so happy! My kids get whole cucumbers in their lunchbox and they love them 😊. My gherkins, on the other hand, have been a bit of a dud - I think I've had 10 gherkins from 2 plants so far! Not so much gherkin pickling going on here... 😒 . . #helpfullittlebee #bees #beefood #veggiegarden #growingfood #homegrownveggies #sprayfreegarden
  • OK, so my mind is officially 🤯, haha! I just strained the apple scraps from my apple scrap vinegar. I've made almost 1.5L of raw fermented apple vinegar for the mere cost of a couple of tablespoons of sugar! 😅 And its soooo easy, I can't quite believe it...
